Prosthodontics, is a treatment for people whose teeth have fallen for a variety of reasons, in this case, dentists use a prosthesis to replace damaged teeth. We proceed to the prosthesis and its variants.
Prostheses come in many different types, from simple veneers used to help repair a tooth to complete dental prostheses that are used to replace one tooth and commonly referred to as dentures. Removable and fixed prostheses are used for dental aesthetic and medical reasons.
Fixed and mobile dental prostheses are main types of prostheses. There are two types of fixed prostheses: a single-tooth veneer which is usually required when the tooth structure is weakened and it needs to be coated for protection and support, or for beauty reasons. Sometimes due to a malfunction of the tooth, the coating is applied to help the chewing system.
Another fixed prosthesis is dental bridges. This type of prosthesis is actually used when a person loses one or more of his teeth, but at the same time there is still at least one tooth in front and one tooth behind the missing tooth. In this way, two teeth adjacent to the empty area are shaped and a bridge between the base teeth is applied in order to fill the empty area so the person will regain the ability to chew and the beautiful appearance.
Mobile prosthesis is another type of prosthesis which is used when fixed prostheses cannot be applied for replacing missing teeth. The mobile prosthesis, as its name suggests, is easily inserted into the mouth or removed by the patient. This type of prosthesis is also available in three types: the partial Dentures. Partial prosthesis has a variety of types which is done based on the doctor's diagnosis.
Complete denture is a movable prosthesis which is used for people who have lost all their teeth. However, today, with the advent of dental implants, the use of these types of movable prostheses has been reduced, but they are still used as the cheapest treatment for those who do not have teeth.
Overdenture is also a type of mobile denture that is actually a complete denture that sits on two dental legs or multiple implant legs. It is easier to use compared to a full denture, but it is still mobile and its comfort is less than the fixed dental prosthesis.
Prostheses are therapeutic options for those who need teeth or for some reason their teeth are troublesome. Dentists use different types of prostheses according to the needs of individuals.
