How eyelid surgery is done?

Blepharoplasty is an outpatient procedure taking about 2 hours to be performed on the upper and lower eyelid. Your surgeon will probably sedate the eye area or put you under local anesthesia to make sure you are comfortable.

For procedures which involve both the upper and the lower eyelids, the surgeon will preferably work on the upper eyelid first. He or she makes an incision on the eyelid to altering the area. Then separates the eyelid skin from excess fat or tissue. some amount of skin, fat or even muscle can be removed to some extent.

Lower blepharoplasty or lower eyelid surgery involves a somehow different process. The surgeon might make an incision either inside the eyelid or under the lash line. Through this incision, the surgeon removes sagging skin and excess fat. These incisions are less likely to leave noticeable scars and the bruising will subside in a couple of weeks.

If the surgery includes correcting droopy eyelid that could impair vision, the surgeon uses a technique called Ptosis treatment along with blepharoplasty.

What can blepharoplasty do?

Blepharoplasty is a procedure that counteracts some effects of aging on the delicate skin around the eyes. bags under the eye, droopy eyelid or excess skin around the eyes can be treated using eyelid surgery. By removing the excess tissues around the eye area, blepharoplasty surgery can make your eyes look bigger and more alert.

Eyelid surgery can also help reduce or eliminate Ptosis symptoms. Ptosis is a condition in which the muscles elevating the eyelid are not strong enough to support it. The condition could occur as a result of trauma or due to genetics. Asians, for instance, are more likely to develop ptosis. The effects of ptosis on the person include grumpy appearance and impaired vision.

Do I need eyelid surgery?

If you are concerned with droopy upper eyelids or baggy lower eyelids, you can definitely benefit from eyelid surgery. Blepharoplasty is also an extremely beneficial procedure for people who are suffering from ptosis or impaired vision due to saggy skin.

Although eyelid surgery can transform your eyes in so many aspects, there are certain restrictions in terms of removing wrinkles.

But blepharoplasty, on its own, cannot remove crow's feet or other wrinkles around the eyes. So if you are concerned about those areas, you should rely on procedures such as Botox or facelift

A good candidate for eyelid surgery should have the following characteristics:

  • In a good general health
  • Have realistic expectations
  • Be older than 35 years old (Younger candidates are also eligible when droopy eyelids run in the family)
