How Botox Works

Botox treatment involves injecting a substance underneath the skin where the neuromuscular tissues are. This substance freezes the underlying muscles and glandular cells, weakens the muscles' contractions, and blocks the nerves that trigger muscle contraction. Usually, the pain is manageable but the doctor might numb the area; especially for injections in the palms or soles. It takes effect in 24-72 hours and prevents you from putting unwanted pressure on some areas of the skin and as a result, prevent wrinkles from appearing.

Botox cost

The cost of Botox is different in various regions. The Botox price is either based on the units injected or on the number of zones treated. For example, the price of Botox per zone is about $350 in Turkey and approximately $450 in the US. In Iran, you can find qualified clinics where Botox is performed at $140 per zone or less.

Where is Botox injected?

You can inject Botox to fight wrinkles temporarily or treat conditions relating to muscles. For cosmetic purposes, the dermatologist can inject botulinum toxin to remove lines in the forehead, wrinkles between the eyes known as glabellar lines, lines around the mouth, and wrinkles in the sides of the eyes (crow's feet). Few studies suggest that botox can be used under the eyes. Some patients reported plumper and fuller appearance after getting Botox under the eyes. But the rate of complications is also higher than other procedures such as injecting botox in the side of the eyes. (source)

When Botox is used to serve other purposes, namely treating medical conditions, a wide range of areas of the body can be subject to the needle. They include the neck or other areas where muscular spasms can occur, or palms and soles for stopping glandular cells and treating excessive sweating. The options can also go as far as injecting botulinum toxin into the muscles underneath the bladder to treat overactive bladder condition.

Botox for men

In recent years, men have come out of the closet to declare their tendency toward looking good openly! Botox has always been available to men and women equally; however, it wasn't until the past few years when men admitted undergoing Botox injection without shame.

Men are particularly prone to developing wrinkles between their eyebrows and on the forehead. But Botox for men is not limited to cosmetic purposes. A large population of men are facing excessive sweating in the arpits and their soles. And many would like to put an end to chronic migraines. Although the larger amount of muscle mass in men requires about 50% more units of Botox than with women, the procedure entails almost the same steps. Nowadays, they have coined the name Brotox to refer to Botox for men.

What else is Botox good for?

The effectiveness of Botox on wrinkles is crystal clear to many. But wrinkles and fine lines are not the only things we can say goodbye to through Botox. Thanks to Botox, you can literally get rid of that pain in the neck, excessive sweating, migraines, or even bladder-related issues. Here are 5 benefits of Botox Some of which might even surprise you.

  2. Muscular pain: Botox can help relieve chronic pain in the neck's muscle. It also helps to ease the tension in the muscles.

Which one is better: Botox, Dysport or Fillers?

The terms Botox and Dysport are two commercial labels attributed to botulinum toxin. Both of these substances temporarily paralyze the underlying muscle and prevent the nerves from triggering contractions. But the similarities end right there.

  • Dysport: the difference between Botox and Dysport is regarding the strength of the trace proteinDysport is less expensive than botox and takes effect quicker. But Dysport is FDA approved only to be used for the glabellar area. Whereas Botox is safe to be used in the glabellar area, forehead, crow's feet, and wrinkles around the mouth.
  • Filler: dermal filler is a substance that is injected underneath the skin to addvolume and fullness to it. In most cases, the substance is hyaluronic acid that fills in fine lines and provides a younger-looking skin. Dermal fillers have a wide range of utilities from enhancing lips to non-surgical rhinoplasty. Check the dermal filler treatment page to compare clinics and specialists.

Should I get Botox?

Botox is the fastest and most effective option for counteracting the effects of aging. If you are starting to see deep lines on your forehead or those unpleasing crow's feet on the sides of your eyes, maybe it’s about time you started considering having a Botox. There are some points to take into account before you proceed with getting your first Botox appointment.

  • Age: Although the majority of people who get Botox are between the ages of 35 to 50, about 126,500 people who visit Botox clinics are younger than 29. You should make sure you have visible wrinkles before going for the needle. Furthermore, Botox is not recommended for people who are older than 65.
  • Wrinkle types: There are two main types of wrinkles. Static wrinkles and dynamic wrinkles. Dynamic wrinkles (rhytids) are deep wrinkles that are visible when you smile or frown. Getting a Botox injection is helpful for removing these types of wrinkles. If you have static wrinkles that can be seen even when you're not smiling or frowning, you should go for a more invasive method like a facelift.

You are not a good candidate if you are pregnant or have had a previous allergic reaction to Botox.

How many units do I need?

The number of injections (units) depends on many factors such as the extent of the treatment area.

  • Glabellar lines: These "11" lines are responsible for the angry face you might develop on your face. Approximately, you will need 20 units and 5 injection sites for this area.
  • Horizontal lines on the forehead: These lines develop gradually. You should always keep an eye on them because when they appear, they deliver and unpleasing look. The area requires 20 units and 5 injection sites.
  • Crow's feet: These fine lines appear when you laugh and make you look older than what you actually are. 20 units and 6 injection sites are needed for this area.
